Professional Organizations

Virginia State Bar - 1938Eugene M. Elliott, Jr. is currently a Member of the Council of the Virginia State Bar, where he represents the Roanoke Valley. The Council is the Bar’s governing body. This year he was one of six members elected by Council to serve on its Executive Committee, which acts for Council when it is not in session. The Executive Committee also consists of the President, President-Elect, Immediate Past President and the Chairpersons of four VSB Conferences. He has served six years on the Executive Committee. in this capacity. He has co-chaired and chaired the VSB Lawyers Referral Committee when the whole program was put online and reorganized. He is a member of the VSB Budget Committee. The Virginia State Bar regulates attorneys, provides ethical guidelines, monitors professional liability insurance, maintains a Clients’ Protection Fund, promotes pro bono work, provides Continuing Legal Education, maintains a Lawyers Referral Service and many other services to the general public and licensed attorneys.

Mr. Elliott is the former Chair of the Conference of Local and Specialty Bar Associations of the Virginia State Bar. The Conference provides resources and programming to local bar associations. It also conducts legal seminars for solo and small firm attorneys.

Mr. Elliott was named Local Bar Leader of the Year by the Virginia State Bar in 2005. In 2006 he received a Commendation from the Virginia General Assembly as a knowledgeable lawyer, bar leader and community leader.

Virginia Law FoundationHe is a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation to which only one percent of Virginia attorneys are invited to join.

He is a past president of the Roanoke Bar Association and past Chairman of the Roanoke Bar Association Foundation and a member of the Virginia State Bar.


Community Involvement

Virginia Museum of TransportationHe is a former president of the Virginia Museum of Transportation, Inc. and is and has been a member of its Executive Board for 35 years. He with others was instrumental in saving Mill Mountain Zoo from closing and served as its first president. He is and has been active in many other bar related and civic projects.


Education

Washington & Lee University School of LawMr. Elliott received his Juris Doctorate from Washington and Lee University School of Law and was active in many of its activities, including serving as a Note & Comment Editor of the Law Review. He is a graduate of Marshall University and Virginia Episcopal School.
